32nd Carlos Varela Regional School Theater Festival

The traditional Carlos Varela Regional School Theater Festival, which this year will take place in the week of 4 to 8 March, has sought, for 32 years, to train audiences, create self-confident citizens and enhance skills in the performing arts. Professor Carlos Varela, the mentor of this festival, had the dream of enabling a meeting where everyone had a place and could show their love for theater. It is with great pride that, every year, Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz, promoting this project of the Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Technology, welcomes all young people who dream of stepping on stage and growing up there.
Through a protocol between the promoting school and Funchal City Council, the show that won the Carlos Varela Prize presents its work at the Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias.
This year the Festival will be attended by around ninety students, aged between 10 and 18, and eleven theater club coordinators from various schools in the Region.
During this week, students are also invited to participate in debates and workshops to delve deeper into areas related to the performing arts.
