50 years of April evoked in a conference at “Liceu”

On April 10, a conference on the Revolution of April 25, 1974 was held at Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz, between 9:55 am and 11:30 am. This initiative was promoted by the History teachers, as part of the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this event.

The guest speakers were António Gonçalves, Military of April, and Gabriel Pita, former high school teacher and researcher. Both shared their personal experiences and discussed the importance of Portugal's democratization in the 70s, bringing vivid memories of that historical period.

During the event, students recited poems related to the Estado Novo and the freedom of April. Several musical excerpts were analyzed.

By interviewing contemporary figures of the Revolution, they obtained a more vivid and personal view of the events that shaped the country, mobilizing the most important Essential Learnings. They were able to not only explore the political, economic and social aspects of the Revolution, but also the feelings, motivations and challenges faced by those who were involved in the process.

In the aftermath of the activity, Democracy was saved as a way forward, defended as a precious asset and a collective achievement of all Portuguese.

The audience was made up of classes from the years10, 11 and 12, as well as other members of the educational community.
