Living April in education: paths to a plural and participatory school

On March 4, the Youth Parliament program at Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz organized a lecture on the theme “Living April in education: paths to a plural and participatory school”. In the year in which the 50th anniversary of Revolução dos Cravos is celebrated, the aim was to share with students the impact that that event had on education in Portugal.

Over the course of approximately ninety minutes, Professor Ana Paula Trindade, a History teacher at the Liceu for almost thirty years, shared with the students present not only the historical facts that led to that event, but also her personal experiences as a student who lived through the before and after April 25th.

Students were thus able to enjoy and learn from an experience reported in the first person. Professor Ana Paula captivated them with her stories, bringing April 25th to them in a light and interesting way, allowing the young people present to travel to the past and experience everything that was experienced on April 25th. 1974 by young people of the same age and in the same place where they themselves developed their training process.

Teachers Alzira Mendes and Andreia Almeida would like to thank classes 30 and 49 of year 10 and the teachers who accompanied them to this lecture for their presence. They also thank Professor Ana Paula Trindade for her willingness to share her experiences and knowledge.
