“The Physics of Wormholes: Time Travel and Paradoxes”
In compliance with the Science and Scientists onLine initiative that our school's Physics and Chemistry group is developing, the 12th year Physics group promoted a conference with researcher João Luis Figueiredo Rosa from the Multidisciplinary Center for Astrophysics of Instituto Superior Técnico under the topic “The Physics of Wormholes: Time Travel and Paradoxes”. The initiative took place on November 14th with the participation of teachers Elisabete Chaves and Carlos Pontes and students from classes 2 and 3 of Year 12.
Students had the opportunity to come into contact with an aspect of the current reality of research in the field of astrophysics, particularly with regard to the study of Wormholes, whose potential is expected to be useful only in the coming decades. In this way, it was possible to draw parallels with the work developed by Albert Einstein, specifically with the theory of restricted relativity and its application decades later.
As these students will soon be confronted with their options regarding their academic careers in higher education, we hope to have contributed, not only,to opening up the range of their choices, but also to motivating them to study science and in particular Physics.
