President of "Liceu" spoke at the Youth Parliament

The 4th edition of Madeira MUN, which took place at the Legislative Assembly of Madeira on May 5, was organized by Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz. This was a peculiar dynamic of the Youth Parliament, that is, for one day, forty-two students from six schools in the Region debated the impact of migration on today's world.

The opening session was attended by the president of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, José Manuel Rodrigues, and the Headmistress of Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz, Ana Isabel Freitas.

The president of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, José Manuel Rodrigues, praised, in the opening session he presided over, the choice of the topic, due to its relevance and relevance.

The Headmistress of “Liceu” welcomed and praised the initiative, promoted within the scope of the Youth Parliament Programme, and recalled that, “in the school context, the migratory phenomenon currently has some visibility”, considering that, given the principle of the right to universal education”, “young migrants must be included and not discriminated against in our schools”.

Ana Isabel Freitas revealed the reality of the centenary “Liceu”, always open to the challenges of the contemporary world and with an unequivocally inclusive stance. “At Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz, students of eleven different nationalities are enrolled. Providing everyone with quality education is a complex undertaking. The first task for those who welcome them to school is to welcome them with kindness. The second, equally important, is to understand what they want to tell us and to make ourselves understood in the same way. We know that language barriers are an obstacle to learning curricular content”. However, Ana Isabel Freitas clarified, “differentiated pedagogy and pedagogical support are the most implemented strategies with a view to acquiring new learning”.
