Student from Liceu won gold medal at the 2024 Physics Olympics
Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz was present at the regional stage of the 2024 Physics Olympics, held last Saturday, April 20th, at the Physics department of the University of Madeira. Students Lourenço Relva, Lourenço Pinto, Margarida Andrade and Jéssica Sousa, from the Science and Technology Course, represented the school.
Student Lourenço Relva stood out in the competition, and ended up winning first place and receiving the gold medal. He is now part of the delegation of students who will represent Madeira in the National phase of the Physics Olympics, scheduled for May 18, 2024.
Before the regional stage, students participated in the school stage. On February 28th this year, the Liceu Experimental Sciences of Physics and Chemistry Club gave its students a test made available by the Portuguese Physics Society, with the aim of selecting the students who would represent the school in the regional stage.
The Physics and Chemistry Experimental Sciences Club expresses its recognition for the commitment and dedication of the students involved in this event. The objective is to encourage and cultivate interest in Physics among Basic and Secondary Education students, considering its fundamental importance in the educational training of young people and its growing impact in all areas of Science and Technology.
