Historical Recreation in the “Liceu” Evokes Deviations of D. João V and the Work of Saramago

In the final stretch of the second term, the “Liceu” Jaime Moniz experienced, this morning, a very rich cultural moment with students and teachers representing the reign of D. João V and the narrative plot of the work Memorial do Convento, by José Saramago.

The project “Conta-me Histórias da Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz” with creativity, historical research, music and painstaking work selecting costumes and props, led the educational community on a unique journey to the 18th century court of the “Magnanimous" and to the popular oppression of power in the construction of the Mafra Convent, in addition to the creeds and eccentricities of some characters of the time and of Saramago's fiction.

Ana Isabel Freitas, president of the ESJM executive board, praised the merit of the initiative as a means of cultural enrichment for students, in a school that goes far beyond formal education, thus providing moments of historical and literary recreation that are important for their education.

The works were subject to a competition, in front of a jury that included the president of the ESJM executive board, retired ESJM teachers, Jorge Moreira de Sousa (and former president of the executive board) and Fátima Marques, and the regional director of Culture, Natércia Xavier.

The teachers in charge of this initiative are Dulce Jorge, Fernanda Coelho, Mayra Pestana, Sandra Sousa and Susana Guimarães.

In the conference room there was a dance, a questionnaire about the work and reign of João V on Kahoot as the jury conferred. The event ended with the organizers calling the winners of the parade to the stage.
