International Women's Day

On March 8th, the European Club of Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz promoted an enriching experience in partnership with UMAR – Madeira (Movement for the Social Emancipation of Portuguese Women). Those present had the opportunity to reflect on the theme: “Women in the West and East: Equality Challenges”.

The speakers, Joana Martins (UMAR Coordinator) and Flávia Reis (dancer and oriental dance teacher), shared their experiences, offering an insight into the different realities faced by women in Arab countries, in cultural contexts several. The glaring discrepancy between women's rights in the West and East was highlighted.

As part of the event, students were able to watch a video containing the testimony of a Lebanese woman, currently residing in Madeira, highlighting the divergences and convergences between the experiences of Arab and Madeiran women.

We thank everyone involved for contributing to the reflection on this topic, which is still marked by great inequality regarding women's rights around the world. However, we maintain hope for a more inclusive and equitable future, where equality is a reality for all women! 💐🌷🌻🌹🌸🌺
