Arts Week at Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz
“Art exists because life is not enough.” It was with this panegyric to the importance of the artistic dimension, expressed by a young student, that Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz inaugurated, today, the 4th edition of the ESJM 2023 Arts Week, organized by the Visual Arts teachers. In fact, from 9:45 am, in the atrium of the “Liceu”, honors were given to artistic expression through the Illustration Competition to list the best works from the young students.
Based on this Week's motto – “Art-Passion-Life” –, the young people at “Liceu”, guided by their respective teachers, aim to create lasting memories, giving free rein to their creative and effusive passion, leaving an original mark on the world. This is the main challenge of the event that takes place at ESJM until May 18th.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Regional Secretary of Education, Science and Technology, Jorge Carvalho, the president of ESJM, Ana Isabel Freitas, and from the City Hall, Sandra Nóbrega, representing the president of the CMF .
The teacher in charge of the Arts group praised the contribution of students and teachers, in order to affirm the importance of the arts in the school panorama, in a challenge to creativity as a way of facing the world, always fueled by the passion to go further.
Ana Isabel Freitas took advantage of the event's motto to reiterate the fact that ESJM is “life”. In fact, she highlighted, “the affirmation of this life takes place in the classroom, where knowledge is constructed, but also in these open spaces. ESJM offers a multiplicity of knowledge through which students assert their diverse skills.” In this opening of the school to the community, the president of the CE announced that students will participate in the Feira Quinhentista, which means that the projects do not just stay at the school but go out to the city.
